- Youth prizes; “Go for the Gold” t-shirt were given to youth that showed at State Fair, Cattle Congress, and Youth Classic. The shirts this year were donated by Karen Laabs. We will continue this for next year and are looking for sponsors.
- Volunteers for Quiz Bowl? : Reminded youth about contests for National Convention. They should get in touch with Karen Laabs if they would like to send a poster or picture to New York. We would really like to have a Quiz bowl team in 2018. Let’s find someone to make this happen. Looking for volunteers.
- PDC update: Mike Eilers reported on updates about State Fair. Joe Gibbs will be the junior show judge and Kevin Stolfus will judge the open show. Open show is on Thursday this year.
- AGA report -Craig Church: Craig updated the membership about recent happenings at the National office. A new CEO was hired. Douglas Granitz will assume duties in mid-March. He will work from his home in Walla-Walla WA. Purebred Publishing is trying a trial contract to publish Holstein World. This could lead to an increase in revenue for the association. Guernsey Marketing Service is working to promote semen sales and are working with a breeder service to collect and market semen. Craig also updated us on the recent findings that the Superman bull was found to not be 100% Guernsey. This is leading to discussion on how to register to reflect % in the animal. The breed currently uses GR/PR prefixes .
- Convention update: Plans are going on for convention. A tentative schedule is set up. Members going to the New York convention will present a skit. Robin Kime is putting together a slide show about our Iowa Guernsey farms to play at our convention. Please contact her with pictures or videos of you farm. The board decide to order pens as a give away promotion at the N.Y convention. Sign up sheets were available for volunteers to work on plans. One idea is to hold a youth show in conjunction with the convention. Other breeds have done this successfully.
